SENSORY GARDEN

The Sensory Garden offers a unique and whimsical outdoor space that heightens the senses (smell, sight, touch and sound) through nature-based play.

ABOUT THE SENSORY GARDEN

Whether you are a child or child at heart, the Sensory Garden is located at the north end of the site, close to the Sergeants Mess Hall and The Commissary.

While you explore the grounds, pay attention to your surroundings and the gorgeous art mural by Portia Chapman. Take note of the signs “Exploring the Senses” also by artist Portia Chapman, that you will find in key spots around the garden. This space is an unsupervised environment that is open to everyone at any time but can be booked for events as part of a shared environment during public visitor hours.

  • 25 dining capacity
  • Six picnic tables under a waterproof kiosk
  • Ten colourful lounge chairs
  • One stage with log seats placed in front for viewing purposes
  • One outdoor mud kitchen (for play purposes only)
  • One water pumping station for watering the plants
  • One large sandbox
  • Fairy dollhouse play corner
  • An insect hotel for local creatures to reside
  • Tic tac toe play area
  • Music therapy station

 

2-Hour Special Occasion Booking Information:
The shaded picnic area can be booked for two-hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The booking includes several picnic tables, colorful lounge chairs, buffet style tables and an electric outlet. While the Sensory Garden is open to the public, the reserved corner section will be allocated for the booked group to relax and celebrate.
